American Lady

American Lady Butterfly

Well, I'm learning all about butterflies and moths the last couple 3 weeks. I'm taking the photos on my walks then going back and googling the ID. I am surprised at how small they are. It's wonderful to see a variety of these colorful winged creatures as the backyard birding is pretty quiet right now.

HaPpY FaLL!!

everyone!

great shot Cindy - my biggest problem with butterflies is getting the shot so I can later look it up. Most of the colorful ones here are gone now. Now I can't wait for spring again seeing your shot.

Nice flutter Cindy. Not unlike our Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui).
Our butterfly season is more or less at an end but I have enjoyed chasing them during the quieter summer months. Hope you have the same fun. Cheers FAB.

Thanks for the kind comments, Dan! My eyes are trained now as I walk along because these butterflies are so small (a little over an inch across). They look big in the picture, though.

Thanks for commenting, Frank! I read that this butterfly can be mistaken for a Painted Lady, but, the 2 distinct white eye spots on the forewings and 2 blue tinted eyeholes on the hind-wings, set it apart.

I agree it can be fun searching for ID's after an adventure. It is amazing how many different varieties there are when you start digging. Beautiful American Lady Cindy!
