Cardinal at the pond.

Mocking Bird at the pond.

Red-bellied Woodpecker at the pond.

These are some of the birds I've been observing this month. The picture quality isn't very good, but hopefully they're good enough for ID purposes. We finally had a first visit of the year by a Junco! I imagine that the Harris Sparrows and White-crown's shouldn't be far behind. They usually begin to show up in colder weather. It was a cold, windy, rainy November day today (35 mph winds) that should bring them :-) We have a pair of Red-breasted Nuthatches (lifers for me) that began visiting last week. I'll probably not post again until after Thanksgiving. Take time to be thankful to God for all your blessings as you enjoy Thanksgiving with your family!

Autumn

These photos are showing some of the sights as we walk along the trails at the Chaplin Nature Center and other nature walks around our community. I am enjoying our beautiful Fall weather here in SC Kansas after that terrible, long, hot Summer. The colors and textures are super and give me lots of material for watercoloring.

I'm not sure what some of these wild berries and plants are called, but I can assure you that I'm learning something new everyday. I had to stick in that photo of the House Sparrows bathing...that is the bird life at the feeder right now. There must have been a dozen young Sparrows in the water tray bathing...cute and funny!

American Lady

American Lady Butterfly

Well, I'm learning all about butterflies and moths the last couple 3 weeks. I'm taking the photos on my walks then going back and googling the ID. I am surprised at how small they are. It's wonderful to see a variety of these colorful winged creatures as the backyard birding is pretty quiet right now.

HaPpY FaLL!!

everyone!
